What does this tool do?

The Occupation Profile provides details on more than 900 careers. For each occupation, you’ll find:

• A description and interests related to the career
• Other common job titles used for the career
• A video with career information
• Typical wages for workers in the career
• Employment information describing the general outlook for jobs in the career
• Typical education of workers in the career
• Information about typical tasks and work activities of workers in this career

You can learn more about all of the above information by clicking the “?” in the lower right corner of any of the boxes on the Occupation Profile.

How do I get started?

Just enter a career, type of work, or other keyword for a type of job under “Search by Occupation.” Then enter your City, State, or ZIP Code, and click “Search.”

Or, click “List of Occupations” to see a list of career names that you can select from.

Where does this information come from?

Data in this tool come from several U.S. Department of Labor data sources, see details below. All O*NET data are from the O*NET 28.1 Database by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration (USDOL/ETA). Used under the CC BY 4.0 license. O*NET® is a trademark of USDOL/ETA.

• Occupation descriptions and the interests related to occupations come from O*NET OnLine’s Occupation Information .
• Alternate titles (“Also known as”) come from O*NET OnLine’s Occupation Information .
• Videos were produced by CareerOneStop (newer videos) or by a national video consortium, which includes many state workforce agencies, as part of CareerOneStop’s Video Library.
• Wage information comes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics Program, May 2022.
• Outlook data come from O*NET Bright Outlook occupations and My Next Move career outlook designations (based on Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Projections 2022-32). Note this information is only available at a national level, so even if you selected a state, you’ll see this information for the whole country.
• Education data come from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Projections: Education and training assignments by detailed occupation, 2022; and Educational attainment for workers 25 years and older by detailed occupation, 2018-19.
• Task information (“What you might do in a day”) comes from O*NET.
