Did you know CareerOneStop has a How-to Guide for switching careers?  It takes users through key CareerOneStop resources to identify a new career and get ready to search for jobs in a new field. Use it yourself, or have clients complete the steps on their own—each step comes with tips and guidance to get the best results.

  • Identify your options. Visit mySkills myFuture to generate ideas related to your work experience and learn about new career options.
  • Research the job market. Learn about demand for the careers on your list using the Occupation Profile.
  • Select your new career goal. Help make your decision by visiting Informational interviews and Professional Associations for tips on how to gain more insight into careers you’re considering.
  • Boost your qualifications. Re-visit the Occupation Profile to confirm whether your education, training, and/or work experience match the typical job requirements. Then visit Local Training Finder or Certification Finder if you need to pursue credentials.
  • Polish your resume. Visit Resume Guide to create or update your resume to target it to your chosen career.
  • Create a clear, focused networking message and start outreach for your new career with these networking tips.

  • Federal government jobs Looking for a job with the federal government? Learn how federal hiring works, get tips to be a more competitive candidate for job openings, and link to the authoritative source for federal jobs at USAjobs.gov.
