Third Assistant Engineer - Upper Level
License Description To obtain a United States Coast Guard license as a Third Assistant Engineer (upper Level, the applicant must complete one of the following: 1080 days of service in the engine room with 720 days as a Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED); or 1080 days as a machinist apprentice engaged in construction or repair of marine, locomotive, or stationary engines plus 360 days of sea service in an engine room as oiler, watertender, or jr. engineer; or graduate from an approved course of studies. This license is valid for 5 years and may be renewed through various options involving recent work experience, passing an open-book exercise, or completing a refresher training course.
