Licensed Veterinarian
License Description To become a licensed veterinarian, the applicant must: be a graduate of an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) approved school of veterinary medicine; and, take or have taken the National Board Examination (NBE), the Clinical Competency Test (CCT), or the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) (with a passing score on the NBE and CCT is 425). Alabama uses a Converted Score of 70. A passing raw score will be determined after the completion of the examinations. Alabama law does not reciprocate with any state; Out-of-state applicants may apply for a temporary license to work under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian until the next available examination. Applicant must forward to the Board verification of current status and letters of good standing of all licenses held in other states. These letters must be received prior to taking the state Board Examination(s).
