Nursing Assistant (Certified)
License Description Nursing Assistants help care for physically or mentally ill, injured, disabled, or infirm individuals confined to hospitals, nursing care facilities, and mental health settings. Some work in patients' homes or residential care facilities. They perform routine tasks under the supervision of nursing and medical staff. They answer patients' call lights, deliver messages, serve meals, make beds, and help patients eat, dress, and bathe. They also may provide skin care to patients; take their temperatures, pulse rate, respiration rate, and blood pressure; and help patients get in and out of bed and walk. They observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nursing or medical staff. Requirements: 1) Nursing assistants must complete an Arkansas-approved nursing assistant training program consisting of a minimum of 90 hours of classroom and practical training. 2) Must pass the two-part State competency evaluation/examination within one year from the date of completion of training. 3) An Arkansas State Background check is required before being employed in a long term care facility. Nursing Assistants who have not lived in Arkansas for five consecutive years must undergo a national FBI fingerprint background check. Nurse Aide Certification Exam required: Headmaster - www.hdmaster.com. Renewal every two years. Testing questions should call 888-401-0462. Registry questions should call 888-401-0465. Certification renewal requires proof of having worked as a nursing assistant in the prior two years of at least one documented day providing nursing or nursing related services for monetary compensation in any setting.
