Barber
License Description
Licensed Barbers cut and style hair, trim beards and mustaches, do shaves, massages, facials, scalp treatments, permanent waving, hair coloring and fit hair pieces. They are skilled in the use of equipment such as scissors, razors, and clippers. They must be conscious of the condition of their tools and surroundings; keeping them clean and sanitized at all times to prevent the spread of disease. Licensed barbers may also sell grooming products. All working barbers must be currently licensed by the Board of Barber Examiners. Requirements: 1) Proof of eighth grade education or its equivalent. (12th grade for Post-Secondary) 2) Must be at least 16 ½ years of age. 3) Must be of good moral character and temperate habits. 4) Must have at least 1,500 hours of instruction from an approved school of barbering. 5) Must pass written and practical examination given by the Board. Written, oral, and practical examinations: $75.00, License fee: $50.00, Renewal fee: $50.00 per year, Restoration of expired license: $75.00 per year of delinquency (up to three years), then re-examination.
