Safety Representative Certification
License Description
It is the policy of the Division that every tunnel project and underground mine shall have a certified safety representative who directs the required safety program and corrects unsafe conditions. Examination and certification of safety representatives by the Mining and Tunneling Unit promotes the safe operation of underground mines and tunnels and ensures that safety representatives possess adequate knowledge and competence in underground work safety and health. Fees: Application: None; Examination: $15; License: None. Examination Frequency: As needed. Exam Locations: Contact Division of Occupational Safety and Health, Mining and Tunneling Unit. Experience Requirement: At least two years of underground safety experience. Knowledge of blasting methods, safety orders, and hazardous concentrations of gas. Average Time to Process Application: Varied. Renewal Period: 5 years. Special License Requirements: Proof of legal alienage.
