Blasters License
License Description
It is the policy of the Division of Occupational Safety and Health to require that a person be licensed as a blaster at operations where explosives are used, as defined in Labor Code Sections 6710(b) and 6711. The licensed blaster shall supervise and visually direct the operation. The examination and licensing ensures that blasters possess an adequate level of knowledge about blasting safety, to restrict the use of explosives by blasters to those categories about which they have knowledge and experience, and to establish and maintain a list of licensed blasters. Fees: Application: None; Examination: $15; License: None. Examination Frequency: As needed. Exam Locations: Contact Division of Occupational Safety and Health, Mining and Tunneling Unit. Experience Requirement: At least three years of blasting experience. Knowledge of blasting methods, safety orders, and hazardous concentrations of gas. Average Time to Process Application: Varied. Renewal Period: 5 years. Authority: California Labor Code, Sections 6710, 6711 and 799.
