Clinical Laboratory Technician
License Description DESCRIPTION OF OCCUPATION: A Clinical Laboratory Technician performs routine tests in a clinical laboratory for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. Prepares vaccines, biologicals, and serums for prevention of disease. Prepares tissue samples for Pathologists, takes blood samples, and executes routine laboratory tests using prescribed protocols for error identification and problem solving. May work under the general supervision of a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Specialist, Clinical Laboratory Cytotechnologist or Clinical Laboratory Director. REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSING: Education and Experience requirements: 1) Associate's degree from an accredited medical laboratory technician program; OR 2) Complete 60 semester hours of study in an accredited college PLUS complete an accredited medical laboratory technician program OR complete an advanced military medical laboratory technician program of at least 50 weeks and hold the Medical Lab Specialist position within 5 years prior to applying. EXAMINATIONS: Pass a written national certification exam from an approved agency. APPLICATION AND FEES: $25 for application fee, $40 for license, $30 for renewal every 2 years.
