License Description DESCRIPTION OF OCCUPATION: An Embalmer prepares bodies for interment in conformity with legal requirements. REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSING: Personal requirements: Be at least 18 years of age. Be of good moral character. Experience and education requirements: At least 5 years of practical experience under the supervision of a registered embalmer or undertaker in Hawaii; OR 2 years of practical experience under the supervision of a registered embalmer or undertaker in Hawaii and completion of a 4-year high school course or equivalent educational training; OR 1 year of practical experience and graduation from a recognized school of embalming. EXAMINATIONS: The International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards, Inc. (Exam for Hawaii only. Scores do not apply nationwide.) APPLICATION AND FEES: $25 application fee, no renewal fee; $110 for exam (subject to change). Apprentice Embalmer: Must register every year to maintain apprenticeship. Every other year three affidavits must be submitted with the registration form OTHER: There were 65 licenses currently active as of January 1, 2022.
