License Description DESCRIPTION OF OCCUPATION: A Registered Nurse (RN) administers nursing care to ill or injured persons and promotes wellness education. Specific duties vary with the work setting. General duties include providing medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, observing and reporting patients' symptoms and responses to treatment, and supervising other personnel. REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSING: Personal requirements: Submit FBI electronic fingerprint for criminal background history check. Education requirements: Graduate from a board-approved nursing program. EXAMINATIONS: National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX). FEES: $40 for application, $54 for 2-year license, $40 for Center for Nursing special fund, and $100 for biennial compliance resolution fund. Renewal every 2 years is $36. OTHER: There were 16,200 licenses currently active as of February 24, 2022. ~ revised 12/20
