Nursing Home Administrator
License Description
DESCRIPTION OF OCCUPATION: A Nursing Home Administrator is in charge of the general administration of a nursing home or immediate care facility. A nursing home means a place authorized as such by the appropriate licensing authority of this state for the care of patients requiring continued nursing and/or health care such as skilled nursing facility of an immediate care facility. REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSING: Personal requirements: Be over 21 years of age. Professional requirements: 1) Submit verification of the applicant's fitness and suitability to be a nursing home administrator from persons in the field or others. 2) Submit 3 letters attesting to the applicant's good moral character, from individuals engaged in either business or the professions, who are not the applicant's relatives or employees. Experience and education requirements: Complete one of the following: 1) Master's degree in hospital administration, public health specializing in gerontology OR public health specializing in health administration and approved 3 credit course in administration of SNF or ICF; OR 2) Bachelor's degree. All applicants without Master's degree must complete ONE of the following: a) Approved course of study/program from a U.S. accredited college or university; OR b) 3 years within the past 5 years of administrative work experience in a health related area. Practical Experience - All applicants without Master's degree in hospital or business administration or public health must meet ONE of the following: a) 1 year administrative experience in an SNF or ICF; OR b) Administrator-in-training program; OR c) 1 year administrative experience in a health related area. EXAMINATIONS: National Association of Boards of Examiners (NAB) exam. FEES: $100 for application, $130 for 2-year license, and $100 for biennial compliance resolution fund. License renewal every 2 years is $130. Temporary license/permit is $100. OTHER: There were 109 licenses currently active as of February 24, 2022. ~ revised 10/16
