Clinical Laboratory Technologist
License Description DESCRIPTION OF OCCUPATION: A Clinical Laboratory Technologist performs a wide range of routine and complex procedures in the clinical laboratory. Duties may include supervising and coordinating activities of other laboratory staff, evaluating new procedures, analyzing quality control data and taking appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision of laboratory tests. Clinical laboratory technologists have the training and knowledge to work in five major areas of the laboratory: Blood banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology and Microbiology. REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSING: Education and Experience requirements: 1) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in medical technology PLUS completion of training in an accredited program in medical technology; OR 2) Complete 3 academic years of study in an accredited college or university in medical technology PLUS completion of training in an accredited program in medical technology; OR 3) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences [ask about course requirements] PLUS 1 year of full-time experience in a lab acceptable to the Department including at least 2 months each in clinical chemistry, clinical microbiology, hematology, immunology, immunohematology. EXAMINATIONS: Pass a written national certification exam from an approved ency. APPLICATION AND FEES: $25 for application fee, $40 for license, $30 for renewal every 2 years.
