License Description DESCRIPTION OF OCCUPATION: A Veterinary Technician performs medical tests in a laboratory environment for use in the treatment and diagnosis of diseases in animals. Prepare vaccines and serums for prevention of diseases. Prepare tissue samples, take blood samples, and execute laboratory tests, such as urinalysis and blood counts. Clean and sterilize instruments and materials and maintain equipment and machines. May assist a veterinarian during surgery. REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSING: Personal requirements: 1) Be at least 18 years of age. 2) Be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Complete a course of study at a program for veterinary technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Or qualify through experience pathway prior to July 1, 2020 with 5+ years of practical experience in veterinary technology in the State of Hawaii. EXAMINATIONS: Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) administered by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB). FEES: Between July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023, pay $227 (registration $95, Compliance resolution fund $35, Special Assessment $50, 1/2 Renewal $47).
