Electrical Contractor
License Description Electricians must be licensed in Idaho. There are four certificates of competency available to electricians: Electrical Apprentice registration, Journeyman Electrician license, Master Electrician license, and Electrical Contractor license. Electrical contractor applicants must be or employ an Idaho licensed Master Electrician and submit proof of $300,000 Liability Insurance and Worker’s Compensation Insurance or a statement of exemption. Specialty electrical contractor applicants must employ an Idaho licensed Specialty Journeyman Electrician in the same Specialty type who has held that license for a minimum of 2 years. Specialty licenses are available in the areas of: Elevator; Sign; Manufacturing/Assembling; Limited Energy; Irrigation Sprinkler; Well Driller/Pump Installer; Refrigeration, Heating & Air Conditioning; Outside Wireman (Lineman); and Photovoltaic (Solar) Installer. Term: Licenses must be renewed annually.
