License Description
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Architects plan and design the construction of new buildings and the remodeling or renovation of older structures. They design buildings to be safe, useful, and attractive. They prepare drawings of the floor plans, elevations, construction details, select building materials, and assist clients in choosing a contractor and developing contracts. They inspect the construction for compliance with codes and specifications. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Applicants must hold a first professional degree in architecture from a five year program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS Each candidate must take and pass all divisions of the Architect Registration Examination (A.R.E.) for license. The nine (9) division exam is available to the candidate on a continuing basis at contract computer centers. Some divisions are multiple choice and some divisions are graphic solutions. Minimum adjusted score of 75 required to pass each division. Unlimited retakes are available for each division failed. Candidates must pay for cost of examination material and administrative service each time taken. Application for Examination fee is $100.00. License Certificate is $25.00. The Annual Renewal of License fee is not to exceed $150.00. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION Applications for examination and Licensure shall be accompanied by a $100 administration fee. Candidates must be good moral character and in addition to education requirements must enroll in and complete the Intern Develop-ment Program (IDP) as verified by the National Council of Architectural Boards (NCARB) or other equivalencies prescribed by regulations. Licenses are renewed June 30 annually. Kentucky has reciprocity with other states through the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. Application for License by Reciprocity is $200.00.
