Law Enforcement Telecommunicator
License Description
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION To receive "calls for service" from the public, collect detailed information and dispatch appropriate public safety services in a timely manner. To serve as a centralized point for coordinating agency activities as well as criminal records entry and inquiry functions. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS A high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS In addition to whatever exams are used by the employing agency for screening prior to employment, all certification training and inservice training requires testing with a minimum of 70% for passing. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION Must attend and successfully complete a forty (40) hour basic course to be certified as a law enforcement telecommunicator. If employing agency has access to the Law Information Network of Kentucky (LINK) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), must attend a forty (40) hour basic course to become certified as an operator. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (after licensure or certification) Must attend at least eight (8) hours recertification training annually to retain certification as law enforcement telecommunicator. Must attend at least eight (8) hours recertification training annually to retain certification as a LINK / NCIC operator. SPECIAL COMMENTS or CONDITIONS Must be a citizen of U.S. and have reached the age of majority. Have not been convicted of a felony or other crimes involving moral turpitude as determined by submission of fingerprints to the State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Must be free of any physical, emotional or mental conditions which might adversely affect employment performance.
