Apprentice Auctioneer
License Description
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Apprentice auctioneer works under the supervision of a principal auctioneer. He accepts bids on goods sold at auction. He handles no money and his actions are the responsibility of his sponsoring principal auctioneer. Any monies owed to him for his services must be paid first to his principal and the principal in turn will give the apprentice his share. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Study material for the exam is provided to the applicant by the Board office. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS Application & forms must be received from the Board office and must be completed and returned at least 21 days prior to exam date. Fee is $75.00. Exam offered every February, May, August, and November. Applicants must attain a score of sixty to pass exam. If applicant fails exam, a new application must be completed and again pay the testing fee. Exam is offered in Louisville, KY only. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Applicants for apprentice auctioneer license must serve a two-year (2) apprenticeship and also must participate as bid caller in at least ten (10) auction sales during the immediate preceding twelve (12) months before applying to sit for the principal auctioneer examination. Initial license fee is $50.00 for the license and $30.00 for the Auctioneer's Education Research and Recovery Fund for a total of $80.00. Licenses renewed every June 30th. License renewal fee is $60.00 ($50.00 license fee and $10.00 for contribution to the recovery fund renewal fee). CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (after licensure or certification) Applicants are required to have three (3) hours per year for apprentice auctioneer license.
