License Description GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Auction house operator owns and operates a fixed site auction house where more than one auction is held per year. He/she gives receipts and renders accounting and funds to sellers of items. He/she does not do the auctioneering. He/she must acquire the services of a licensed auctioneer unless he/she is licensed as an auctioneer. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS All study material is given to applicant by regulatory agency. Applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS Application forms must be completed and returned to the regulatory agency at least twenty-one (21) days prior to the exam date. Examination is three (3) hour written format. Applicant is graded on writing, mathematics, general knowledge of the law, ethics, auction contracts, and final settlements. Examinations are administered in February, May, August, and November. Must score at least sixty (60) to pass. If applicant fails the examination, he/she must reapply and pay the $100.00 examination fee before being permitted to retake same. Examination is administered in Louisville, Kentucky only. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION Applicant must be the owner / operator of an auction house at a fixed site. License renewed every June 30th. Initial license fee is $80.00. Renewal fee is $60.00 ($50.00 for renewal license fee and $10.00 for renewal recovery fund fee).
