License Description GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Provides cutting, permanent waving, dressing, styling, finger waving, marvelling, pressing, tinting, bleaching and shampooing hair for customers. Gives facials, massages scalp, and applies cosmetics, lotions, powders, oil, and other preparations. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Must have completed the tenth (10) grade or equivalency PLUS 1800 hours in an approved school of cosmetology. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS Examinations in September through June, as determined by the regulatory agency. Type examination; practical with a minimum score of 70% required. Contact the regulatory agency for applications. Examination fees of $35.00. Should you fail, contact the regulatory agency. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION Applicant must be at least sixteen (16) year of age. Must be of good moral character and temperate habit. Must have six (6) months work-experience as an apprentice in a licensed beauty salon. First license fee is $15.00, with license renewed annually, by July 31, at a fee of $12.00. Reciprocity with other states vary. Contact the regulatory agency for specifics. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (after licensure or certification) Effective July 1, 1997, cosmetologists shall provide proof of six (6) hours of continuing education for renewal of license.
