License Description
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Diagnose, treat, prevent, cure or relieve human diseases, ailments, defects or other conditions, whether physical or mental, by attending to or advising, or by using device, diagnose test or other means, prescribes proper medication and treatment. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Must be a graduate from a medical school approved by the Board. All medical schools located in the United States and Canada approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the Canadian Medical Association are approved by the Board. Medical education obtained outside the United States and Canada is evaluated by the Board on an individual basis. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS Applications for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) available through regulatory agency. Examination for USMLE given in May and December by regulatory agency consisting of two (2) day examination. Application fee is $50.00. Examination fee is $375.00. Passing score: seventy-five (75). GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION You must be of good moral character. Graduates of medical schools situated in the United States and Canada must complete at least one (1) year of postgraduate training approved by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education of the National Joint Committee on Accreditation of Pre-registration Physician Training Programs. Graduates of medical school located outside the United States and Canada must complete three (3) years of postgraduate training (of which twelve (12) months must consist of clinical training) approved by the ACGME or the National Joint Committee. All license are renewed annually by March 1 through the regulatory agency with a renewal fee of $100.00. Kentucky recognizes other states licenses as long as their requirements are equivalent to ours.
