License Description GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Performs registered nurse functions and practices as an advanced registered nurse practitioner in the management and care of the essentially healthy woman and newborn during the child-bearing process. Advanced practice is based on knowledge and skills acquired in a post-basic program of study and clinical experience. A person must hold a current Kentucky ARNP registration to be employed as or practice as a nurse-midwife in Kentucky. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS In addition to successful completion of a Board approved program of registered nursing, a person must have successfully completed an organized post-basic program of study and clinical experience recognized by the regulatory agency in concert with the national nursing organization. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS The schedule of certification examinations is determined by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. For application procedures, type of examination, examination fee and retake procedures, contact the regulatory agency. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION There are no age, residency, or work experience (after completion of the prelicensure program) requirements for licensure. Must have current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky and be certified as a nurse-midwife by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. Must seek registration as an advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP). Initial license fee is $80.00. Biennial registration must be renewed by October 31 in even years, at a fee of $55.00. Registration and reciprocity with other states varies. Contact the regulatory agency in the appropriate state for information regarding requirements. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (after licensure or certification) Thirty (30) contact hours required for biennial renewal of registered nurse license. Continuing education contact hours must be earned via a Board approved provider. An ARNP must complete five (5) contact hours of continuing
