License Description
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Provides physical therapy services or be a consultant to patients with or without referral. Uses selected knowledge and skills to plan, organize, and direct programs for individuals whose ability and function is impaired or threatened. Performs screening and evaluation, tests in aid of diagnosis as well as physical treatment with emphasis on the skeletal system, neuromuscular and cardiopulmonary function. Therapists may specialize and receive advanced practice certification. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Must have satisfactorily completed all didactic and clinical portions of a Program in Physical Therapy accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy (CAPTE) and approved by the Kentucky Board of Physical Therapy. Minimal entry level is baccalaureate. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS Contact the regulatory agency for application procedures. Following approval by the board, a candidate schedules a date and time to sit for the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) via computer based exam at a Sylvan Learning Center, in Louisville or Lexington. May not practice until examination has been successfully completed, if candidate has failed the examination. Must pay fees for examination and reexamination. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION There are no age or residency requirements. Must not be addicted to narcotics or indulge in excessive use of alcohol. Must not have been convicted of a felony or any crime which affects ability to practice competently and safely. License to practice in another state must not have been revoked, suspended, or under current disciplinary review or probation. Must have completed four (4) classroom hours in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) / AIDS education to be licensed. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (after licensure or certification) Must complete two (2) hours of HIV / AIDS education for renewal of license every two (2) years.
