License Description
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Diagnoses, treats, operates on, or prescribes for any animal disease, pain, injury, deformity or physical condition and receives compensation for such. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS You must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from a school which has full accreditation, limited accreditation or approval by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). If the applicant does not possess a degree from a Veterinary School, the candidate must successfully complete the program and receive certification from the Education Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) of the AVMA. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS Contact the regulatory agency regarding application procedures, type of examination, passing score, and examination fee. Schedule of examinations are determined by the regulatory agency, but normally given two (2) times a year, April and December. Should you fail, you may retake the portion failed within two (2) years. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION You must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. There are no residency or health requirements. You must be of good moral character. Contact the regulatory agency regarding work experience requirements. All license are renewed annually by September 30. The renewal fee is $50.00. Temporary permits are issued based on KRS 321. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (after licensure or certification) Fifteen (15) hours annually.
