Emergency Medical Technician
License Description
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Must carefully evaluate the patient's physical condition following an accident or illness, and provide prompt, appropriate and efficient care of the patient prior to and during transportation to a medical facility. Must complete reports and maintain records on each patient. Must maintain equipment and vehicle. Must be trained in crowd control and utilize two-way communications equipment. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to read, speak, write and understand the English language. Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate, and complete a prescribed training course approved by the regulatory agency. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS Contact the regulatory agency regarding application procedures. Written and practical examinations administered at the end of each approved course. Contact the regulatory agency for additional information. Written Certification and Practical Skills examinations given at the end of the course for those who successfully completed same. Practical Skills Certification exam must be passed before applicant is eligible to submit for the Written Certification exam. Must score a minimum of 70 percent (70%) on the written examination and pass the practical examination. $19.00 Kentucky Certification fee. Should applicant fail, applicant must retake entire EMT course again before reexamination. Exam fee may vary from one testing agency to another. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION You must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. May be subject to disciplinary action for violations pertaining to 902 KAR 13:090. Contact the regulatory agency for more information. There are no work experience requirements. Certificates are renewed every two (2) years from date of first issue provided the applicant has met the continuing education requirements. Certificate renewal fees are the same as the original fees.
