License Description
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION The person primarily involved in the delivery of emergency medical services at the scene of an injury or illness, outside of a permanent medical facility. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS High school graduate or equivalency and has successfully completed an approved paramedic training course, approved by the regulatory agency. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS To secure an application, contact the regulatory agency. Examinations are scheduled in April and October of each year. Utilization of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians written and practical examinations are used in addition to a Kentucky-administered oral examination. The written examination consists of six (6) sections, of which each section has a minimum passing score in addition to a required overall passing score of 75%. The practical examination is on a pass/fail basis as is the oral examination. There is a $10.00 application fee, a $45.00 state fee, and a $35.00 fee to the National Registry of EMT's. The fees for retest are $45.00 for a practical or oral and $35.00 for the written. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION Applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Must have had a physical examination within twelve (12) months verifying that the applicant is in good health and has no disabilities that may interfere with a paramedics work. Must be currently certified as an EMT, EMT-Ambulance, EMT-Instructor or EMT-Instructor / Trainer. Must attain the Continuing Education Requirements and successfully pass a renewal examination, prescribed by the regulatory agency, prior to expiration of his / her certificate. Reciprocity is considered on an individual basis. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (after licensure or certification) Must obtain a minimum of sixty (60) hours of approved in-service training and successfully pass a renewal examination, with minimum score of 80%, prior to expiration of his / her certificate.
