License Description
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Inspect boilers, pressure vessels and related piping for compliance with the safety rules and regulations of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Codes and Standard, and the Kentucky Standards established in the statutes. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Must be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D equivalency. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS Write a letter of request to the regulatory agency for application. Schedule of examinations, first Wednesday and Thursday in the months of March, June, September and December. A written examination, with a passing score of 70% required. $20.00 examination fee. Should you fail, you may retake at the next scheduled examination date. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION There are no age or residency requirements. Must be physically able to complete any and all tasks assigned. Must have at least five (5) years of experience in boiler and/or pressure vessel construction, repair, operation or maintenance inspection. National Board license fee for new applicants is $35.00; renewal is $25.00. Kentucky has reciprocity with any state that has adopted the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Code and has issued a Certificate of Competency to the applicant. SPECIAL COMMENTS or CONDITIONS A National Board Commission is required, along with the Commonwealth of Kentucky Commission, to inspect boilers, pressure vessels and / or piping.
