Hearing Instruments Specialist
License Description
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Practice of fitting hearing instruments means the measurement of human hearing by means of an audiometer for the purpose of making selections, adaption's and adjustments of hearing instruments. The term also includes the making of ear mold impressions and custom earmolds. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS A minimum of a high school diploma or a general education development certificate. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS An applicant must have completed the twelve (12) month apprenticeship as required by the board in order to sit for the exam. Any applicant holding a master's degree in audiology licensed under KRS 334A or holding at least a master's degree from a recognized college or university and having the certification of clinical competence in audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association shall not be required to submit to or undergo any training or other procedures other than the payment of fees and successful completion of the examination. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION Applicant must twenty-one (21) years of age or older, must be of good moral character, must be a citizen of the United States or show status as legal alien, and must be free of contagious or infectious disease. Application packets are provided by this regulatory agency. The license must be renewed annually by submitting the renewal form and fee, a copy of the sales contract, audiometric calibration certificate and evidence of ten (10) hours of approved continuing education. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (after licensure or certification) Must have ten (10) clock hours of continuing education approved by the board.
