License Description
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Negotiates, or attempts to negotiate, the sale, exchange, rental or leasing of real property, belonging to other people, for a fee, compensation or commission and can supervise sales associates. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS You must be a high school graduate or equivalent and twenty-one (21) credit hours with a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours in real estate from an accredited college or university or three hundred and thirty-six (336) clock hours from a private school approved by the regulatory agency. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS Examinations are scheduled several times a week in Kentucky. Type examination; multiple choice on computer. Must score 75% or higher. Examination fee is $75.00. Secure information from the regulatory agency or an approved real estate school. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION You must be eighteen (18) years of age to make application. There are no health requirements. You must be honest, trustworthy and of a good reputation. You must have worked as a real estate sales associate for at least twenty-four (24) months. All licenses are renewed annually by March 31, fee not to exceed $30.00 plus Education, Research and Recovery Fund not to exceed $30.00. Contact the regulatory agency regarding reciprocity. Errors and Omissions Insurance is required of all licensees whether secured from an insurance company or through the regulatory agency's group. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (after licensure or certification) All active real estate licensees must complete six (6) hours of continuing education each calendar year. Two (2) of the six (6) hours must be in real estate law topic. Individuals who were originally licensed prior to June 19, 1976 and who have maintained a continuously active license since that date, as well as licensees in escrow are exempt from this requirement.
