License Description GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION It is the primary duty of the Property Valuation Administrator (PVA) to equitably assess all real and personal property in his / her county, based on the fair cash value of the property. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS A candidate running for the office of Property Valuation Administrator (PVA) must first pass a written examination. Examinations are administered by the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet in each of the seven (7) Supreme Court Districts of the Commonwealth during the month of November of the preceding year in which PVA's are to be elected. Successful applicants are issued a certificate by the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet indicating eligibility to run for office. This certification expires in one (1) year. The next statewide PVA examination will be in November, 2001. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION Candidates must be at least twenty-four (24) years of age at the time of election. He / she must be a citizen of the Commonwealth of Kentucky for two (2) years and one (1) year in the county and district in which he/she is a candidate preceding the election. PVA's, although elected in a specific county, are considered state officials and all deputies and assistants of their offices shall be unclassified state employees. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (after licensure or certification) Every PVA shall annually, within each calendar year, participate in a minimum of thirty (30) classroom hours of professional instruction conducted or approved by the regulatory agency. The annual requirement shall be reduced to fifteen (15) hours for a PVA who earns the Senior Kentucky Assessor (SKA) professional designation, administered by the Revenue Cabinet.
