Driver Training Instructor
License Description
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Any person who gives driver training or offers a course of driver training for which a fee is charged. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Must be a high school graduate or the equivalent (GED). EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS For application, contact the regulatory agency. Examination given according to the Driver Testing schedule in the county where the applicant resides. Examination type; vision, written, and actual road test. Must score a minimum of 80%. If road test is failed, you must wait a minimum of one (1) week. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and of good moral character. Must hold a current, valid Kentucky operator's license, and must not have been convicted of two (2) moving hazardous violations within the two-year period immediately preceding the application. If instructing commercial drivers, must hold a Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Must have a physical examination. Must be employed by a driver training school licensed by the Kentucky State Police. No work experience is required. License fee is $20.00, and must be renewed annually by June 30, at a fee of $20.00. Kentucky has no reciprocity with any other state. SPECIAL COMMENTS or CONDITIONS An instructor cannot be absent one functional eye, hand, or foot. The visual acuity of an instructor cannot be worse than 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other, or 20/30 in each eye separately with or without glasses.
