License Description  Licensing requirements exist for public and private construction contracts exceeding $50,000 and for commercial construction. Also, projects consisting of more than two single residential homes or more than one single residential duplex, triplex, or fourplex require licensing.  Must complete an application, and take the Business, Law, and Trade exam. For the examination a passing grade of 70 to 75 percent (depending on the exam) is required. Applicants must have a net worth of $10,000.  Must show 4 hours of continuing education in order to renew license. NONRESIDENT REQUIREMENTS  Nonresident contractors must obtain a Certificate of Authority from the Secretary of State. Nonresident contractors and subcontractors must register with the Department of Revenue and Taxation if the contract is in excess of $3,000.  The contractor shall also post a bond or other surety in the minimum of $1,000.
