The purpose for the certification of public water system operators is to insure the proper management, operation and maintenance of a public water system. The various grades of certificates shall be issued in accordance with the demonstrated skill, knowledge, experience and character of the operator.
(1) In a Class VND (Water Vending Machine) public water system, the person with the responsibility for making process control/system integrity decisions about water quality or quantity that affect public health, and having active field supervision of, distribution and/or treatment activities must hold a Grade VND certificate.
(2) In a Class VSS (Very Small System) public water system, the person with responsibility for, making process control/system integrity decisions about water quality or quantity that affect public health and having active field supervision of, distribution and/or treatment activities must hold a Grade VSS or higher grade certificate.
(3) In a Class I public water system, the person with responsibility for making process control/system integrity decisions about water quality or quantity that affect public health, and having active field supervision of, distribution and/or treatment activities must hold the appropriate Grade 1 or higher grade treatment or distribution certificate.
(4) In a Class II public water system, the person with responsibility for making process control/system integrity decisions about water quality or quantity that affect public health, and having active field supervision of, distribution and/or treatment activities must hold an appropriate Grade 2 or higher grade treatment or distribution certificate.
(5) In a Class III public water system, the person with responsibility for making process control/system integrity decisions about water quality or quantity that affect public health, and having active field supervision of, distribution and/or treatment activities must hold an appropriate Grade 3 or higher grade treatment or distribution certificate.
(6) In a Class IV public water system, the person with responsibility for making process control/system integrity decisions about water quality or quantity that affect public health, and having active field supervision of, distribution and/or treatment activities must hold an appropriate Grade 4 treatment or distribution certificate.
(7) An individual may apply for certification and, after passing the Board examination, shall be certified in the highest grade for which he/she qualifies, except that experience in a Class VSS or Class VND public water supply may not be used toward qualifying for any higher grade (Grades 1D through 4D or Grades 1T through 4T). |
