Funeral Director (Mortuary Science)
License Description To receive a Mortuary Science (Funeral Director) License in the State of Michigan, an applicant must have graduated from a three-year course in mortuary science at an accredited school. This includes completing at least 60 semester/90 quarter hours of non-remedial college courses (with at least a 2.00 grade point average), as well as completing at least one year of instruction at an accredited mortuary science program (with at least a 2.00 grade point average). Additionally, an applicant must serve as a resident trainee for at least one year under the supervision of a mortuary science license holder. Finally, an applicant must pass the National Arts and National Science examination (exam fee is $250 per section), pass the Michigan Mortuary Science examination ($56), and submit a license application along with the $100 application fee.
