License Description Related Terms and Definitions: A new graduate (a person that has graduated from an accredited nursing program within the last three months) is eligible to apply for a temporary permit. Please note the following; The new graduate may work within their scope of practice with the temporary permit for 90 days. Temporary permit expires at 90 days from the date of issuance/approval Within those 90 days, the new graduate must test and pass NCLEX. If the new graduate fails NCLEX, the temporary permit becomes invalid and the new graduate is no longer able to work off the temporary permit. If the new graduate does not take NCLEX within the 90 days of holding the temporary permit, the permit becomes invalid and the new graduate is no longer able to work off the temporary permit. Temporary permits are single state permits only. Once a temporary permit has become invalid it cannot be renewed. Temporary permits will not be extended. Advanced Practice Initial Licensure Instructions Applicants for Mississippi Board of Nursing (Board) APRN certification must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Mississippi, or hold an active unrestricted Registered Nurse multi-state Compact license. APRNs applying for RN endorsement or RN reinstatement and APRN certification must complete the RN endorsement or RN reinstatement process before APRN certification can be granted.
