Occupational Description


Education Administrators plan, direct, and/or coordinate the academic, clerical, and/or auxiliary activities of public or private elementary or secondary schools.

Licensure Requirements


The Department of Education may issue standard, professional, and provisional administrative permits or certificates.Applicants must:1. Complete the appropriate application forms prescribed by the Department;2. Submit an official transcript of all college credit earned;3. Pay the prescribed fee;4. Not have an application for a certificate or permit denied or currently have a certificate or permit suspended or revoked by another jurisdiction, and not have any felony conviction, or any misdemeanor conviction involving abuse, neglect, or sexual misconduct;5. Qualify for or hold a Nebraska standard or professional teaching certificate, or hold a comparableand equivalent certificate;6. Submit evidence of human relations training;7. Submit evidence of basic skills competency (if applying for an entry-level Nebraska administrativecertificate after July 31, 1989);8. Submit evidence of special education training (if applying for the first issuance of a Nebraska administrative certificate after September 1, 1992);9. Submit a complete, legible set of the applicant's fingerprints and pay a processing fee for a criminal history record check, if the applicant is seeking the first issuance of a Nebraska certificate and has not been a resident of Nebraska for at least five continuous years immediately preceding the date of application;10. Be of good moral character;11. Not have an emotional or mental incapacity to practice the profession;12. Submit evidence of content test passage, if applying for a new administrative endorsement.Standard Administrative Certificate-The Standard Administrative Certificate shall be valid for teaching and administration in all Nebraskaschool systems, except that such certificate shall be valid for the position of Superintendent of Schools only if so endorsed. If requested by the applicant at the time of application, such certificateshall be valid only in Nebraska nonpublic school systems.The Standard Administrative Certificate expires on August 31 of the fifth year on the certificate.Each applicant for a first Nebraska Standard Administrative Certificate must:1. Fulfill the requirements listed above;2. Have received a master's degree in education or a subject area for which there is an endorsement from a standard institution of higher education with an approved program for the preparation of school administrators in the area(s) of endorsement sought by the applicant;3. Qualify for or hold one or more educational administration endorsements;4. Either:A. Within five years prior to the date of application, have received six semester hours of graduatecredit for course work;-OR-B. Within five years prior to the date of application, have administered half-time or more for oneyear in an accredited or approved school or educational service unit in another state wherein the applicant held a standard administrative certificate or its equivalent.Professional Administrative Certificate-The Professional Administrative Certificate shall be valid for teaching and administration in all Nebraska school systems, except that such certificate shall be valid for the position of Superintendent of Schools only if so endorsed. If so requested by the applicant at the time of application, such certificate shall be valid only in Nebraska nonpublic school systems.The Professional Administrative Certificate expires on August 31 of the tenth year on the certificate.Each applicant for a Professional Administrative Certificate must:1. Fulfill the requirements listed above;2. Have received a six-year specialist's certificate or a doctorate degree in educational administrationfrom a standard institution of higher education with an approved program for the preparation of school administrators in the area(s) of endorsement sought by the applicant;3. Qualify for or hold one or more administrative endorsements;4. Either:A. Within five years prior to the date of application, have received six semester hours of graduatecredit for course work recognized as meeting all or part of the requirements for an administrativeendorsement;-OR-B. Within five years prior to the date of application, have administered half-time or more forone school year in the same accredited or approved school system or educational service unit,have been employed as a regular faculty member in the teacher or administrator preparationprogram of a standard institution of higher education, or in the Department while holding aNebraska standard administrative certificate or a comparable and equivalent certificate.Licensing requirements for this occupation are subject to change. Fees


Certificate/Renewal Fee: $75.00 for all schools; $55.00 for nonpublicAdditional Endorsement: $55.00 Fingerprinting and criminal history background checks are required for any person applying for his or her first Nebraska certificate, IF he or she has not lived in Nebraska for five continuous years. This requires an additional fee of $50.00, in addition to the regular application fee.

Renewal


Standard and Professional Administrative Certificate must be renewed prior to expiration or less thangive years after expiration.Each applicant for renewal of a Standard or Professional Administrative Certificate prior to orless than five years after the date of expiration of such certificate must:1. Fulfill the licensure requirements;2. Hold or have held a Nebraska standard or professional administrative certificate which shall nothave expired, or which expired less than five years prior to the date of application;3. Either:A. Within five years prior to the date of application, have administered half-time or more for oneschool year in the same Nebraska school system, a pre-kindergarten early childhood programwhich is required by law to employ teachers with certificates, an accredited or approved schoolsystem in another state, a U.S. Department of Defense school system, or have been employedas a regular faculty member in the teacher or administrator preparation program of a standardinstitution of higher education or been employed in the Department;-OR-B. Have received six semester hours of graduate credit from a standard institution of higher education within five years prior to the date of application.Licensing requirements for this occupation are subject to change.
