License Description
Occupational Description
A Certified Public Accountant (CPA), who is certified and licensed, performs one or more kinds of servicesinvolving the use of accounting or auditing skills, including the issuance of reports on financialstatements which state or imply any level of assurance as to the reliability of any financial statementsassociated with such assurances; and/or performs one or more kinds of management advisory orconsulting services, or the preparation of tax returns, or the furnishing of advice on tax matters.
Licensure Requirements
Applicants must:1. Have earned a baccalaureate or higher degree from anaccredited institution(s) with 150 semester hours or 225quarter-hours of postsecondary academic credit;2. Have passed the Certified Public AccountancyExamination with a score of 75% or higher on each of thefour sections;3. Have passed the AICPA Ethics test with a score of 90%or higher;4. Meet one of the following:A. Have verification of 4,000 hours of accounting experienceover two years under the supervision of a licensedCPA in a licensed accounting firm.-OR-B. Have verification of 4,000 hours of accounting experience over two years in employment as anaccountant in the office of the Auditor of Public Accounts or the Department of Revenue.-OR-C. Have verification of 6,000 hours over three years, of accounting experience satisfactory to theBoard, in any state, in the employment as:(a) An accountant in government or business under the supervision of an active certified publicaccountant who is the holder of a permit issued under subdivision 1a of Neb. Rev. Stat. § 1-136or the equivalent issued by another state;-OR-(b) Faculty at a college or university of recognized standing under the supervision of an activecertified public accountant who is the holder of a permit issued under subdivision 1a of § 1-136or the equivalent issued by another state.

Renewal
Individuals renew biennially, with expiration on June 30.Firms renew annually.In order to renew an active permit for the following licensing period, licensees will be required to showthat they have taken a minimum of 80 continuing professional education hours, including a four-hourethics requirement, in the two preceding calendar years. CPE hours must be reported by January 31of each year.
