License Description
Occupational Description
An Architect is a person who is licensed by the Board of Engineers & Architects to practice architecture. Practice of architecture means providing or offering to provide design services in connection with the construction, enlargement, or alteration of a building or group of buildings and the space within and surrounding the buildings. The services may include, but not be limited to, planning, providing studies, designs, drawings, specifications, and other technical submissions, and administering construction contracts. The practice of architecture does not include the practice of engineering.
Licensure Requirements
EducationA degree from either a National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) or Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) accredited program, OR meet the NCARB (National Council of Architectural Registration Boards) Education Standard. Experience Completion of AXP or a NCARB-approved alternative for satisfactory completion of AXP. ExaminationSuccessfully pass the NCARB Architect Registration Exam (ARE). Licensure by Reciprocity-Applicants who do not meet the above requirements may qualify for licensure upon presentation of satisfactory evidence of 15 years or more of licensed experience in compliance with the licensing laws in the jurisdictions where his or her architectural practice has occurred.To qualify for licensure by reciprocity, applicants must: 1. Have a valid NCARB certificate in good standing;- OR-2. Submit satisfactory evidence of 15 years of licensed work experience acceptable to the Board;- OR-3. Meet Nebraska's initial license requirements. All reciprocal options require the applicant to apply to the Board, along with the required applica-tion fee; provide three references indicating good reputation and ethical character; and pass an examination on the statutes, rules, and other requirements unique to Nebraska.
Fees
Fees are set by the Board and are subject to change. Check the Board's website (ea.nebraska.gov/architect-fees) for current fees. License Application Filing Fee- $150 Architect Exam Application Filing Fee- $0 (additional testing fees required after approval by the Board. Such fees are determined by the exam administrator.)
Renewal
Licenses must be renewed biennially by December 31. The renewal fee is $80.00. Individuals with last names starting with the letters A through K renew in odd-numbered years; individuals with last names starting with the letters L through Z renew in even-numbered years. Late Renewal Fee- 10% of biennial fee each month late, but late fees may not exceed the amount of the regular biennial fee. If a license has been expired for one year or more, a new application is required and the licensee must meet the current licensing requirements in place at the time of application.
