Occupational Description


Polygraph Examiners attempt to verify truthfulness or detect deception by using instrumentation or mechanical devices that record data about an individual's physiological responses to questions asked during the administration of a polygraph exam.Polygraph examinations are used by law enforcement agencies, the legal community, and private businesses under the restrictions set forth in federal and state law.A license is required for any person who uses or attempts to use any instrument or device for the purpose of attempting to verify truthfulness or detectdeception.

Licensure Requirements


Applicants must:1. Submit an application form and pay the license fee;2. Pass a written examination;3. Be at least 19 years of age;4. Be a United States citizen;5. Possess good moral character;6. Either:A. Have an academic degree at the baccalaureate level from an accredited college or university;-or-B. Have at least four years of investigative experience at the federal, state, political subdivision, or private licensed investigator level immediately prior to application;-or-C. Have had at least four years' experience administering polygraph examinations; 7. Complete 250 hours of formal polygraph instruction; 8. Complete an internship training period.

Renewal


Renewal is required annually by December 31. The renewal fee is $25.00.
