Occupational Description


Jockeys ride a horse during a race, and are responsible for the conduct of the horse during a race.

Licensure Requirements


A Jockey must be at least 16 years old in order to be eligible to ride on NE racetracks and must be tested and approved by the Board of Stewards at all tracks.  All jockeys must pass a physical examination once a year before the commencement of a meeting, affirming fitness to participate as a jockey.  The Stewards may require that any jockey be reexamined, and may refuse to allow any jockey to ride until such an examination is successfully passed.  If a jockey has previously passed such an examination prior to riding at a track in this state, a physical fitness card signed by the examining doctor that shows that date upon which the examination was made must be presented to the Commission.

Jockey License Fee - $50.00.Apprentice Jockey License Fee - $50.00

Renewal


Renewal is required annually by December 31.  The renewal fee is $50.00.Fingerprints are required every 5 years.
