License Description

Occupational Description


Medical Radiographers may practice medical radiography for diagnostic purposes on any part of the human body for interpretation by and under the direction of a licensed practitioner, except for interpretive fluoroscopic procedures.  Limited Radiographers may perform medical radiography for diagnostic purposes on limited regions of the human body using routine procedures for interpretation by and under the direction of a licensed practitioner.  The Limited Radiographer may be licensed in one or more of the following categories: Chest; Extremities; Skull & Sinus; Spine; Ankle & Foot; Abdomen  Limited Computed Tomography Radiographer- This person may practice medical radiography restricted to CT scan. Note: A nuclear medicine technologist may perform CT without being licensed under the Medical Radiography Practice Act if such practice is limited to X-rays produced by a combination nuclear medicine-CT system and administered as an integral part of a nuclear medicine procedure that uses a CT protocol for purposes of attenuation correction and anatomical localization only, and if the nuclear medicine technologist has received documented device-specific training on the combination nuclear medicine-CT system. Temporary Licenses: Temporary Medical Radiographer- A student in a medical radiography education program who has completed at least 12 months of that program can obtain a temporary license to perform the duties of a Limited Radiographer. A temporary license expires 18 months from the date it's issued and cannot be renewed. Temporary Limited Computed Tomography (CT) Radiographer- A person registered in nuclear medicine can apply for a temporary limited CT license. This license expires 24 months after it's issued and cannot not be renewed. Persons licensed as Temporary Limited CT Radiographers can perform medical radiography restricted to CT while under the direct supervision and in the physical presence of licensed practitioners, Medical Radiographers, or Limited CT Radiographers.

Licensure Requirements


Medical Radiographer applicants must:1. Complete an approved educational program in radiography;2. Pass the Examination in Radiography given by the ARRT with a score of at least 75;3. If an applicant has performed medical radiography in another jurisdiction which regulated such practice either by licensure, certification, or registration, the applicant must submit from the regulatory agency where the applicant is currently regulated:A. A certification that the applicant is duly licensed, certified, or registered;B. That his or her license, certification, or registration was based on an examination;C. That his or her license, certification, or registration has never been suspended, revoked, or otherwise disciplined-OR- The nature of any disciplinary actions that were taken against the applicant's license, certification, or registration;D. That, so far as the record of the agency is concerned, the applicant is entitled to itsendorsement.Limited Radiographer applicants must:1. Pass the Examination for the Limited Scope of Practice in Radiography given by the ARRT as follows:A. Achieve a passing score of 70% or above on the Core section of the exam;B. Achieve a passing score of 65% or above on each of the following sections of the exam for which licensure is sought:. Chest;. Extremities;. Skull & Sinus;. Spine;. Ankle & Foot.If the Examination for the Limited Scope of Practice in Radiography given by the ARRT was taken in a state other than Nebraska, the applicant must request that the ARRT send the examination scores directly to the Department.2. If an applicant has performed medical radiography in another jurisdiction which regulated such practice either by licensure, certification, or registration, the applicant must submit from the regulatory agency where the applicant is currently regulated:A. A certification that the applicant is duly licensed, certified, or registered;B. That his or her license, certification, or registration was based on an examination;C. That his or her license, certification, or registration has never been suspended, revoked, or otherwise disciplined -OR- The nature of any disciplinary actions that were taken against the applicant's license, certification, or registration;D. That, so far as the record of the agency is concerned, the applicant is entitled to itsendorsement.No applicant for a license as a Limited Radiographer may take the examination for licensure, or for licensure for any specific anatomical region, more than three times without:A. Waiting a period of one year after the last unsuccessful attempt of the examination;B. Submitting proof to the Department of completion of 12 hours of continuing education meeting the requirements of 180 NAC 16-009 for each subsequent attempt. Reciprocity- Nebraska Revised Statute 38-129.02 outlines a reciprocity pathway for individuals who are moving to Nebraska from another jurisdiction that has a similar license type.

Fees


Medical Radiographers, Limited Radiographers, & Limited Computed Tomography Radiographers- $146.00, or $36.50 if initial license is obtained within 6 months prior to the next expiration date.   Temporary Medical Radiographers & Temporary Limited Computed Tomography Radiographers:- $15.00

Renewal


For all licenses, renewal is required biennially by December 1 of even-numbered years. The renewal fee for Medical Radiographers, Limited Radiographers, and Limited Computed Tomography Radiographers is $146.00. Twenty-four hours of continuing education, earned within 24 months of the date of expiration, is required to qualify for renewal. Temporary licenses cannot be renewed.
