Nurse Aide
License Description

Occupational Description

A Nurse Aide (NA) is a person on the Nurse Aide Registry employed for the purpose of aiding a Licensed Registered or Practical Nurse through the performance of non-specialized tasks related to the personal care and comfort of residents, clients, and/or patients.

Licensure Requirements

Nebraska does not license or certify NAs. However, NAs are placed on a registry after successfully completing a 75-hour course, and then passing a written and demonstrated skills test with a score of 70% of higher.

Fees

Nebraska does not charge any fees for placement on the nurse aide registry. Fees for the state-administered written and skills competency testing are determined by the state-approved testing entities conducting the examinations.

Renewal

Once an individual is placed on the Nurse Aide Registry, their status remains active until such time as 24 months has lapsed since the individual stopped working as a Nurse Aide. If an individual does not provide nursing or nursing-related services for monetary compensation for more that 24 months, their status becomes lapsed. Individuals who have previously taken an approved 75-hour Nurse Aide training course and have not provided nursing or nursing-related services for more than 24 months must pass a state-approved competency evaluation program (written and clinical exam) in order to become active again. If an individual is lapsed because their employment did not get reported to the Nurse Aide registry, they may submit a notarized statement completed by their employer verifying dates of employment and specific job description/duties.
