License Description

Occupational Description


Law enforcement officers patrol assigned areas through a variety of methods.  Officers respond to calls for service from the public that range from taking a burglary report to intervening in domestic violence calls and dealing with people who are experiencing mental crisis.  Officers also enforce traffic laws, render aid and assistance as well as conduct criminal investigations. 

Licensure Requirements


To be admitted to the Training Center, applicants must:1. Be at least 21 years old;2. Possess a high school diploma or a GED certificate approvedby the Nebraska Department of Education;3. Be able to read, write, and understand the English languageat the 11th grade level, as verified by a test approvedby the State Department of Education and administered bythe Training Center;4. Be a citizen of the United States;5. Furnish four completed fingerprint cards for a search oflocal, state, and national fingerprint filesPossess good character, as determined by a thorough background investigation;7. Pass a criminal history check;8. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license;9. Have vision correctable to 20/30;10. Have normal hearing;11. Have not been convicted of driving while intoxicated in the two years immediately precedingadmission.

Fees


Fee for officers employed by a law enforcement agency: $2385.00For officers who must pay a tuition: $8520.00

Renewal


While employed as a law enforcement officer must annually qualify with handgun and complete the mandated continuing education requirements.
