License Description

Occupational Description


Private Detectives conduct confidential investigations and report the results to their employer or client. The investigations may involve potential or pending litigation, either civil or criminal, divorce or other domestic investigations, missing persons or property, or any other lawful investigation. A license is required for any person engaged in thePrivate Detective business. This includes:. General investigative work;. Non-uniformed security services;. Surveillance services;. Location of missing persons;. Background checks.

Licensure Requirements


Applicants must:1. Submit an application form and pay the license fee;2. Pass a written examination;3. Be at least 21 years of age;4. Be a United States citizen;5. Possess good moral character;6. Submit to a background investigation conducted by the Nebraska State Patrol;7. Submit a $10,000 bond;8. Have one of the following:A. 3,000 hours of verifiable experience;-OR- B. 2,500 hours of experience and an associate degree in a relevant field;-OR-C. 2,000 hours of experience and a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. A Plain Clothes Investigator must work for a licensed Private Detective Agency.

Private Detective Agency License- $100.00 Private Detective License- $50.00 Plain Clothes Investigator License- $25.00 Background Check Application Fee- $38.00

Renewal


Renewal is required biennially by June 30 of even-numbered years.
