Occupational Description Cosmetology means the practice of performing, for compensation, any or all of the following:
Acts of arranging, dressing, curling, waving, cleansing, cutting, bleaching, coloring, styling or similar work on the hair, wig, wiglet, or hairpiece of any person, by any means, with hands or a mechanical or electrical apparatus or appliance;
Esthetics;
Nail technology;
Other similar practices on the hair, scalp, face, neck, arms, hands, feet, or nails of any person, when performed for the purpose of beautifying or enhancing physical appearance;
The teaching of any practice specified in this section for occupational purposes.
Licensure Requirements Applicants must:1. Have attained the age of 17 years on or before the beginning date of the examination for which application is being made;2. Have completed formal education equivalent to a United States high school education;3. Possess the ability to identify and respond to emergency situations that could occur in the practice of cosmetology;4. Have graduated from a school of cosmetology or an apprentice salon in or outside of Nebraska.The applicant must submit a diploma or certificate from the school or apprentice salon verifyingcompletion of a program of studies consisting of a minimum of 1,800 hours;5. Have passed the licensure examination with an average score of 75%. Applicants Whose Training was Received Outside the United States-Applicants for Nebraska licensure who received their training in foreign countries must meet the the following requirements:1. Must be at least 17 years old and lawfully present in the United States.2. Must have graduated from high school or have a GED. 3. A current license or equivalent official recognition of the right to practice in a foreign country; or at least 5 years of practice within the 8 years immediately prior to the application.4. Must take and pass the National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC) examination. All applicants must take the examination for licensure in the State of Nebraska and be either a citizenof the United States, an alien lawfully admitted into the United States who is eligible for a credentialunder the Uniform Credentialing Act, or a nonimmigrant whose visa for entry, or applicationfor visa for entry, is related to such employment in the United States.
Fees Initial License- $95.00
Renewal Renewal is required biennially by December 31 of even-numbered years. The renewal fee is $118.00.
Eight hours of continuing education are required biennially. |
