License Description

Occupational Description


Electrologists provide permanent removal of hair by the application of an electrical current to the dermal papilla by a filament to cause decomposition, coagulation, or dehydration within the hair follicle by means of a short wave or galvanic current or the blend, as approved by the Federal Food & Drug Administration.

Licensure Requirements


Applicants must:1. Have attained the age of 17 years on or before the beginning date of the examination for whichapplication is being made;2. Have completed formal education equivalent to a United States high school education;3. Possess a minimum competency in the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the practices for which licensure is sought, as evidenced by successful completion of an examination in the appropriate practices approved by the Board and administered by the department;4. Possess sufficient ability to read the English language to permit the applicant to practice in a safe manner, as evidenced by successful completion of the written examination;5. Have graduated from a school of electrolysis. The program of studies shall consist of a minimum of 600 hours;6. Be a citizen of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted into the United States who is eligible for a credential under the Uniform Credentialing Act, or a nonimmigrant whose visa for entry, or application for visa for entry, is related to such employment in the United States. Applicants for a Nebraska license who received their training in a foreign country must meet the following requirements:1.         Be at least 17 years old and lawfully present in the United States.2.         Have graduated from High School or have a GED. 3.         Hold a current license or equivalent official recognition of the right to practice in a foreign country; or at least 5 years of practice within the 8 years immediately prior to the application.4.         Take and pass the National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC) examination for electrologists.

Fees


Initial License- $95.00, plus the cost of examination

Renewal


Licenses must be renewed biennially on July 31 of odd-numbered years. The renewal fee is $118.00 Eight hours of continuing education are required biennially to qualify for renewal.
