Occupational Description


  Commercial cat breeder means a person engaged in the business of breeding cats, who meets any of the following criteria:. Who sells, exchanges, leases, or in any way transfers or offers to sell, exchange, lease,or transfer 31 or more cats in a 12-month period beginning on April 1 of each year;. Who owns or harbors four or more cats, intended for breeding, in a 12-month period beginning on April 1 of each year;. Whose cats produce a total of four or more litters within a 12-month period beginningon April 1 of each year;. Who knowingly sells, exchanges, or leases cats for later retail sale or brokered trading. Commercial dog breeder means a person engaged in the business of breeding dogs, who meets any of the following criteria:. Who sells, exchanges, leases, or in any way transfers or offers to sell, exchange, lease, ortransfer 31 or more dogs in a 12-month period beginning on April 1 of each year;. Who owns or harbors four or more dogs, intended for breeding, in a 12-month periodbeginning on April 1 of each year;  . Whose dogs produce a total of four or more litters within a 12-month period beginning on April 1 of each year;. Who knowingly sells, exchanges, or leases dogs for later retail sale or brokered trading

Licensure Requirements


A qualifying inspection is required for all initial license applicants prior to a license being issued.

Fees


Initial License Fee- $125.00

Renewal


 A license to operate as a Commercial Dog or Cat Breeder is non-lapsing. The licensee must submit an annual fee to the department on or before April 1 of each year. Failure to pay the annual fee prior to April 1 shall result in a late fee equal to twenty percent of the annual license fee due and payable each month, not to exceed 100% of such fee, in addition to the license fee. Fees are based upon the annual daily average number of breeding dogs or cats housed by the licensee over the previous annual licensure period as follows: . Ten or fewer dogs or cats- $175.00                  . 251 to 300 dogs or cats- $475.00. 11 to 50 dogs or cats- $225.00                           . 301 to 350 dogs or cats- $525.00. 51 to 100 dogs or cats- $275.00                  . 351 to 400 dogs or cats- $575.00. 101 to 150 dogs or cats- $325.00                  . 401 to 450 dogs or cats- $625.00. 151 to 200 dogs or cats- $375.00                  . 451 to 500 dogs or cats- $675.00. 201 to 250 dogs or cats- $425.00                  . More than 500 dogs or cats- 2,100.00 In addition to the fee prescribed in the fee schedule, the annual fee for a Commercial Dog or CatBreeder shall include a fee of $2.00 times the daily average number of dogs or cats owned or harbored by the licensee over the previous 12-month period, if that number exceeds ten dogs or cats.
