Occupational Description


An assisted-living facility is a facility where shelter, food, and care are provided for remuneration for a period of more than 24 consecutive hours to four or more persons residing at such facility who require or request such services due to age, illness, or physical disability.  An Assisted-Living Facility Administrator is an operating officer of an assisted-living facility, and includes a person with a title such as administrator, chief executive officer, manager, superintendent, director, or other similar designation. The administrator is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the day to day operation of the assisted-living facility.

Licensure Requirements


Anyone serving as an Assisted-Living Facility Administrator must submit an application to be placed on the state registry.   Prior to registry placement, an Assisted-Living Facility Administrator must have successfully completed an initial training course consisting of a total of at least 30 hours. Verification of initial training completion must be submitted to the Department for approval. A copy of the training program, including training materials, syllabus/outline and hours per subject must be attached to the application.  The training program must consist of at least 30 hours, covering subjects including, but not limited to the following:  Resident Care & Services Social Services Financial Management Administration Gerontology Rules, regulations and standards relating to the operation of an assisted living facility initial training requirements do not apply to an Assisted-Living Facility Administrator who also holds an active Nursing Home Administrator license, or who is currently employed as a Hospital Administrator. Verification of nursing home or hospital administrator status must be submitted to the Department.

Renewal


Each year of employment, an Assisted-Living Facility Administrator must complete 12 hours of ongoing training in areas related to care and facility management of the population served. The record of such training must be available for Department review, including the topic(s) of training, date and length of the training, and name and title of the person(s) providing training.  Verified Nursing Home and Hospital Administrators are not required to fulfill the annual training requirement.
