Barber
License Description
Applicants must: 1) Be at least 18 years old and of good moral character. 2) Have completed a 1,500 hour barber school course approved by the board. 3) Complete an apprenticeship of 18 months under the supervision of a licensed barber. 4) Pass a State Board Examination. Applicants from another state must take the examination and furnish proof of 5 years barbering experience. Exams are given in March, June, September and December. Applicants for an apprentice barber's license must: 1) Be at least 16 1/2 years old and of good moral character. 2) Have graduated from an approved school of barbering. 3) Pass a State Board Examination. Modified requirements exist for individuals already licensed as cosmetologists; contact the board for more information. Fees may be subject to change. Fees are: application--$15; examination--$85; initial license--$60; biennial license renewal--$50; barber shop inspection fee (new shop)--$50; biennial barber shop state license--$60.
