License Description Applicants must pass the Nevada state optical exam. To qualify for the exam, applicants must: 1) Be at least 18 years old, and of good moral character, and have graduated from an accredited high school or its equivalent. 2) Hold current American Board of Opticianry (ABO) & National Contact Lens Exam (NCLE) certifications. 3a) Have completed an approved opthalmic education course and have 3 years of opthalmic dispensing experience as a licensed NV apprentice dispensing optician under the supervision of a licensed optician, ophthalmologist or optometrist; or 3b) Have graduated from an approved school with an associate of applied science degree in ophthalmic technology and had 1 year of ophthalmic dispensing experience as a licensed NV apprentice under the supervision of a licensed dispensing optician, ophthalmologist or optometrist. 4) Have completed at least 100 hours of training and experience in fitting and filling contact lens prescriptions (under direct supervision as listed above). 5) Have 3 letters of reference, including one from a dispensing optician or a person who has worked in the optical industry with the applicant; letters must be mailed directly to the Board by the authors. Fees are subject to change. Fees are: apprentice application--$100; optician application/examination--$350; optician examination retake--$250; annual optician license renewal --$300; annual apprentice license renewal--$50.
